CHANGE AND OFFICE POLITICS


I'VE COME TO REALIZE THAT NO MATTER HOW YOU TRY TO PLEASE A PERSON, IT IS NOT
ENOUGH. IN MY CASE, THE ONLY PERSON I WAS ABLE TO PLEASE AT THE SAME TIME DISPLEASED IS MY FATHER AND MOTHER. THEN ME MYSELF AND I.

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN ONCE SAID, THERE'S ONLY 2 THINGS  INEVITABLE TO LIFE. DEATH AND TAXES. BUT I'D LIKE TO ADD 1 MORE. CHANGE.

CHANGE   IS  HAPPENING FASTER THAN ANYTHING IN HUMAN HISTORY. WE ARE CAUGHT UP IN A SWIRLING PERPETUAL MOTION THAT WE CAN NEVER AVOID. 
 DURING MY FIRST INTERVIEW FOR A CALL CENTER JOB, I WAS ASKED HOW WILL I DEAL WITH CHANGE.   I HAD A HARD TIME ANSWERING IT, MAINLY COZ I NEVER THOUGHT OF THE MOST BASIC.

AS I GROW MORE MATURE IN THE BPO INDUSTRY,WITH ALL ITS COMPLEXITY AND PERVERSE ENVIRONMENT, I COME TO REALIZE. EVERYTHING HAS TO START WITHACCEPTANCE. ANYTHING AT ALL HAS TO, OR ONE  CAN NEVER LEARN TO MOVE ON.

HOW TO DO IT? SIMPLE.  NEVER ALLOW THAT CHANGE TO FRUSTRATE YOU. USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. IVE NEVER HAD A DEEP THINKIN ABOUT IT UNTIL ANOTHER INTERVIEW CAME. I HAD TO GET MYSELF PREPARED BEFORE THAT AND WENT OVER THE QUESTIONS I COULD REMEMBER AS FAR AS MY FIRST INTERVIEW.

THERE ARE CHANGES THAT'S JUST NOT RIGHT.QUESTIONABLE CHANGES THAT MAKES YOU AWAKE THE ENTIRE NIGHT. MAKES YOU LIST DOWN THE "WHAT IFS" AND "I SHOUDL'VE."  THE CHANGES THAT YOU WANTED TO QUESTION BUT DONT HAVE THE RIGHT TO.WHY AND HOW CAN THAT BE? MAYBE JUST LEAVING IT AS IT IS WOULD SAVE YOUR ASS.  OR IF YOUR GONNA ACT AS IF YOU DONT KNOW THE PROBLEM THEN YOU'RE INNOCENT. WHAT IF YOU KNOW THE PROBLEM AND  YOU JUST DONT KNOW THE SOLUTION, WHERE DOES THAT LEAVE YOU? BEING IGNORANT? BUT HERE'S THE CATCH, WHAT IF YOU  KNOW BOTH THE PROBLEM AND THE SOLUTION AND WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT? ARE YOU THEN THE "CRIMINAL?"

LET ME PUT THIS ONE IN A MORE REALISTIC PICTURE.

IVE COME TO REALIZE THAT ANYWHERE YOU GO, WHATEVER YOUR JOB WOULD BE, ONE COMMON PROBLEM IS OFFICE POLITICS. WHICH AS OFTEN AS ALWAYS, COULD BROUGHT A CHANGE THAT NOT ALL CAN UNDERSTAND. THE RACE TO CLIMB THE CORPORATE LADDER INTENSIFIES AND THE CLASSIC RAT RACE MENTALITY DEVELOPS. IN SOME CASE I MIGHT SAY THE "OP" IS PERSONALLY HARMLESS AND JUST A PART OF THE "SWIRLING PERPERTUAL MOTION" OF
TRYING TO GET AHEAD. AND GETTING AHEAD IS NOT AT ALL BAD AS LONG AS ITS GIVING YOU THE GOOD STRESS INSTEAD OF THE BAD AND YOUR NOT HURTING ANYBODY BY BEING FAIR AND SQUARE.

I HAD A QUICK CHAT YESTERDAY WITH A FRIEND OF MINE WHOSE AN ACTIVIST . OUR TOPIC
WAS ABOUT OP, MAINLY COZ HE'S GOT THE SAME ISSUE AND HE SHARED A FEW POINTS ABOUT IT.
IM POSTING IT BELOW ALONG WITH MY REACTIONS ON EACH POINTS.

SHORT LIST OF REDUCING POLITICS IN A
WORKPLACE:

1. MEASURE PERFORMANCE
I reacted:  a qualification is a qualification, not just a word or sentence printed on a scented copy paper.

2. PAY OFF ON PERFORMANCE
I reacted:   give Juan what's due for Juan.minus the tax.

3.PUBLICIZE PERFORMANCE DATA
I reacted:  all this horrible bosses would say their doors are open, but when u knock, they seldom got time for you.

4. REVEAL THE REASONS FOR DECISIONS
I reacted: yea! no need to sugarcoat. if its sour then its vinegar. reality of life.


5. OPENLY CONSIDER ALL GOOD IDEAS.
I reacted: highlighted word CONSIDER. not just listen and disregard

6.SHUN DEAL MAKING
I reacted:  they should'nt use chiness words.

7.DO NOT ENTER INTO SECRET DEALS
I reacted: the government has it. it is allowed.what the hell!

8.AVOID ALL POLITICAL BEHAVIOR
I reacted:  Amen to all bosses with hot asses....


MAYBE IT MAKE SENSE. MAYBE NOT.HOW ITS GONNA WORK DEPENDS ON THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHOSE GONNA REACT. SO WHATEVER  CHANGE THAT'S GONNA COME YOUR WAY, EVEN HOW DIREFUL THE OFFICE POLITICS IS IN YOUR JOB, JUST HOPE THAT ITS GOING TO BRING UNITY NOT DIVERSITY.
